A man has been seriously injured after being hit by a HGV in Stafford today (24th March), the ambulance service say.

Emergency services received reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a HGV on the northbound carriageway of the A34, Yarlet.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm.

An off-duty paramedic came across the collision and gave medical help to the pedestrian.

After his condition was stabilised, he was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The pedestrian, a man, had sustained serious injuries in the collision and was quickly given trauma care by the team of medics.

"Once the man’s condition was stabilised, he was conveyed on blue lights by land ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

"The aircrew medics travelled in the ambulance to continue advanced trauma care enroute to A&E.”
