A Stoke-on-Trent man has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison for the rape of a woman in the Bucknall area earlier this year.

Alfie Tilsley, 22, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday, 16th June, where he pleaded guilty to charges of rape committed in January.

According to the victim's report, Tilsley threatened her to ensure his crime went unreported.

Despite these threats, she courageously reported the incident, leading to Tilsley's arrest shortly thereafter.

Initially denying the charges, Tilsley admitted to the offences at the start of the planned trial and received a custodial sentence.

Alongside the prison term, Tilsley has been given a restraining order and will have to regularly register at his local police station following his release as per the requirements of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Detective Constable Clare Horner from the rape and serious sexual offences department commented:

“Tilsley not only subjected the victim to an awful ordeal, but then went on to make threats and deny what he had done.

“I am glad he has since admitted his offending and that he has been handed a custodial sentence.

“I’d like to praise the courage of the victim for coming forward and hope that the prison term provides her with some comfort as she continues with the rest of her life.”
