A man has been jailed, after admitting wounding a man’s face with a knife in Burton-on-Trent in 2023.

Adam Kyle Plant, aged 25, of no fixed address, appeared at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday (14 May) for sentencing, after admitting Section 18 wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place; a knuckle duster, and possession of a knife in a public place. He was jailed for five years, with an additional two years on extended licence.

It's after an assault on a man, at the corner of Horninglow Road in Burton-on-Trent, just after midnight on 15 August 2023.

The victim suffered significant facial injuries in the assault.

Plant had been spotted by officers in the area and spoken to about blood on his hand, before trying to make off along Waterloo Street.

He was apprehended by officers and arrested a short time later.

Officers recovered a large hunting-style knife from the waistband of his trousers.

Along with his jail term, Plant was ordered to pay a surcharge of £228 on his release.

Speaking after sentencing, Superintendent Victoria Downing, of the major and organised crime department, said: “This was a horrific attack on the victim who suffered significant injuries in the assault.

“I am pleased Plant has been handed a custodial sentence for his offending and hope that this shows how we are determined to pursue individuals committing violence to protect our communities from harm.”
