Andrew Paul Whalley, 34, from Nantwich, Cheshire, has been sentenced to more than five years in prison after deliberately driving a car at another man in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Whalley was jailed for five years and four months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 23rd March 2026, having admitted to section 18 – wounding with intent, affray, and dangerous driving.

Violent incident on High Street

The incident occurred in April 2024 when a fight broke out between Whalley and another man inside a shop on High Street, Talke Pits. The altercation spilled onto the street, leading Whalley to briefly leave the scene.

Returning just minutes later, Whalley drove a blue Vauxhall at speed onto the pavement where his victim was standing, resulting in serious injuries.

Following the vehicular assault, Whalley exited the car and pursued the victim around parked vehicles on the street.

Arrest and conviction

Upon arrest, Whalley claimed that the victim had jumped in front of his vehicle, but he opted for a 'no comment' answer during police questioning.

Sergeant Gail Tolley of the Stoke South local policing team remarked on the severity of the attack: “Whalley subjected his victim to a spontaneous and violent attack which has left him with long-lasting injuries.”

Tolley commended the team’s efforts in securing evidence, resulting in Whalley’s imprisonment.

Whalley's conviction stands as a reminder of the consequences of violent and reckless actions.
