A man who stalked a teenage girl in Stoke-on-Trent has pleaded guilty in court.
Sabjan Burkazi, 30, of Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday (Monday 9 February) and admitted engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, stalking involving serious alarm / distress and three counts of making an indecent photograph / pseudo photograph of a child.
On 18 August last year, Burkazi grabbed the survivor when she was walking down an alleyway in Tunstall. He tried to pull her in the direction of his home but she fought back.
Burkazi ran off to his home when someone else saw him grabbing them. We were then called and went to his address to arrest him.
When speaking to the survivor about the incident, police learnt that Burkazi had been stalking the survivor for a number of months. He would go up to her in the street and ask for her phone number and social media, which she would always refuse to give him.
Upon a search of his phone, indecent images of children were seen on there.
Detective Inspector Adam Goodger, from our child protection team, said: “I’m pleased we’ve been able to secure this outcome today and avoid putting the victim through the trial process.
“We’re working tirelessly every single day in Staffordshire to support survivors of these offences and to seek the toughest possible punishment in court for those who commit them.”
He’s been remanded ahead of his sentencing date at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 24 February.
