A man has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for historic child sexual offences in Macclesfield.

Daley Sweeney, a 39-year-old from HMP Dovegate, appeared at Chester Crown Court and admitted to two counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 16.

The offences took place on two occasions in June 2002.

Detective Constable Steph Darbyshire praised the victim for bravely coming forward to report the offences.

DC Darbyshire said that Sweeney had shown no remorse for his actions and was forced to plead guilty due to the evidence against him.

She expressed hopes that the sentence would encourage other victims to come forward, reaffirming that reports of historic sexual offences are treated seriously and thoroughly investigated.
