A man has been hospitalised with serious injuries after a multi-vehicle collision on the M6 in Staffordshire.

The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway between junctions 16 and 15, near Madeley, at approximately 10.06pm last night.

West Midlands Ambulance Service responded promptly, deploying two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a critical care paramedic from Midlands Air Ambulance, and a North Staffordshire BASICS doctor to the scene.

According to a service spokeswoman, the van driver was trapped and had sustained serious injuries. Fire and ambulance staff worked together to safely extricate him, providing trauma care before transporting him to Royal Stoke University Hospital under emergency conditions.

The driver of a second vehicle involved in the collision sustained non-serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital for precautionary checks.
