A Lithuanian man has been jailed for 13 years after sexually assaulting a 19-year-old girl in Winsford.

29-year-old Arturas Galinauskas was found guilty of sexual assault following the incident in June.

The court heard how the assault happened at the home of one of the victim's friends.

Galinauskas had claimed his name was Tommy, and was an acquaintance of this friend.

The victim was asleep at the house and awoke to find Galinauskas sexually assaulting her.

He only stopped when the friend returned.

During questioning he claimed all sexual activity was consensual.

Detective Constable Bethany Green, who led the investigation said: “While she the victim will never be able to forget what happened that night, I hope that the substantial prison sentenced that has been handed to Galinauskas will provide her with some closure and allow her to move forward with her life.”

Galinauskas has also been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
