Kidsgrove mulls new order amid spike in anti-social behaviour
Proposed measures tackle street drinking and e-scooter riding
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is considering imposing a public space protection order (PSPO) in Kidsgrove town centre to address rising anti-social behaviour.
Over the past year, reports of street drinking, aggressive begging, and e-scooter riding have increased by 54%, prompting the council's plan for intervention.
If enforced following a 12-week consultation period, breaching the order could result in a £100 penalty or prosecution.
The PSPO aims to mitigate persistent behaviors impacting residents, businesses, and town centre visitors, reflecting measures already implemented in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Council members emphasized the continuing detrimental effects of anti-social behaviour in the community and identified a need for proportionate powers and interventions.
The proposed PSPO would be in place for three years before undergoing review, contingent on final approval following the consultation process.
