Outpatient appointments at Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford are being affected by extreme temperatures.

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust said operating theatres, testing labs and MRI scanners are "unable to operate at normal capacity in the heat and humidity."

Katy Thorpe, Chief Operating Officer at UHNM, said: “Some outpatient appointments are being postponed and rescheduled to allow us to prioritise urgent and emergency patients.

“Pathology services are also disrupted, with appointments at Bradwell, Bentilee and Meir being rearranged to take place at alternative locations to maintain safe and effective service delivery.

"Patients requiring a blood test which has been cancelled, can attend as a walk-in at Stoke on Trent Community Diagnostic Centre located on the old Sainsbury’s site, Etruria Way, Hanley, ST1 5NQ.

“If your appointment has been affected, our teams will contact you directly. If you have not been contacted, please attend your MRI, pathology or elective surgery appointment as planned. There is no need to call us unless you have been asked to do so.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.”
