You'd need a "heart of stone" not to feel for Starmer, says Newcastle-under-Lyme MP
Adam Jogee MP won his seat in Labour's landslide victory in 2024
The MP for Newcastle-under-Lyme has said those watching Keir Starmer's resignation speech today would have to have a "heart of stone" not to feel for him.
Adam Jogee MP (Labour) won his seat in Labour's landslide victory in 2024.
Jogee said: "He's made a decision, I think rightly, that he's not the best person to lead us forward and fair play to him for having the guts to do that."
The Staffordshire MP said that since Starmer took power, the country has come a long way but there's plenty more work left to do.
He was particularly proud of closing the Walleys Quarry landfill site and the nationwide ceramics industry package.
Of the Labour Party's potential future with Andy Burnham at the helm, Jogee said: "He's indicated today that he's going to stand and, you know, everything happens for a reason.
"The Almighty has his plan and we are now where we are."
