Hanley Bus Station has been closed temporarily after a light fitting fell from the roof on Thursday.

The closure is a precautionary measure to allow repair work on the light fittings, which may have been affected by recent temperature changes.

The decision was made following an immediate inspection by the council when the issue arose.

Passengers should note that while the bus station is closed, services are continuing as normal.

Temporary bus stops have been set up nearby to accommodate travellers.

The council has stated that the prioritised repair work will take place on Thursday and overnight, aiming to have the bus station reopened by the weekend.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council's spokesperson assured that public safety remains their top concern.

“We acted quickly to assess the site as soon as the problem emerged,” they said.

“As always, public safety is our number one priority, and we have closed the station in order for necessary work to be carried out as quickly as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.”

The closure has also affected the newsagent within the station, which remains inaccessible to customers.
