Stafford's Gatehouse Theatre has had its busiest year on record
Theatre sees a boost in attendance with over 180,000 visitors last year
Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford has reported its busiest year on record, attracting over 180,000 visitors in the past 12 months, marking a six per cent increase over the previous year.
The theatre on Eastgate Street, which also handles the town’s Tourist Information Centre, saw a notable rise in attendance, surpassing last year's 170,000 visitors. Revenue figures reached new heights since the venue opened in 1982.
The Christmas production of Sleeping Beauty confirmed the venue's success, drawing nearly 19,500 attendees. Ticket sales for upcoming shows, including Aladdin, indicate potential for continued growth.
The theatre also plays a significant role in community arts through its Gatehouse Youth Theatre programmes and annual Summer Schools. A new satellite venue, HEART (Hub of Entertainment Arts Recreation and Theatre), was launched last year, expanding the theatre's reach.
In addition to local appreciation, the Gatehouse partnered with major national media such as Channel 4 and Channel 5, enhancing its profile. It participated in discussions regarding culture's role within Staffordshire alongside Culture Minister Ian Murray.
Stafford Borough Council remains a key supporter, with Councillor Gillian Pardesi acknowledging the theatre's impact on the local economy and community. For further information on upcoming shows, visit www.gatehousetheatre.co.uk .
