A team of firefighters from Staffordshire will travel to Atlanta, USA, on 23rd June 2026 to participate in a memorial event marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The event will see 343 firefighters, including ten from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, climb 110 floors to match the height of the World Trade Centre, honouring the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 11th September 2001.

H2 - Preparation for the event

As part of the preparation, Cannock Community Fire Station firefighter Bob Mortimer will undertake a memorial stair climb in Southampton on Saturday, 11th July 2026.

Mortimer will be joined by colleagues from emergency services across the UK, climbing 110 floors inside St Mary’s Stadium.

Mortimer said, “It is an honour to take part in the 9/11 memorial event this year to mark the 25th anniversary.

“343 firefighters gave their lives that day and it will be a privilege to complete the climb alongside international colleagues.

“The Southampton challenge in July is a family event and I will be raising money for various charities including The Blue Light Card Foundation and The Fire Fighters Charity.”
