Firefighters have successfully extinguished a blaze at a derelict building on Stafford Street in Hanley, following an early morning call at 12.40am yesterday.

Six fire crews and two aerial ladder platforms were deployed to the scene at the peak of the fire, which broke out on the first floor of the building.

Aerial ladder platforms were instrumental in removing roof tiles, allowing firefighters to access and combat the flames effectively.

Crews used main jets to put out the blaze, with hose-reel jets utilised for lingering hotspots.

Today, crews are still on-site monitoring and damping down any remaining hotspots.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council personnel are also present as demolition work gets underway.

A multi-agency meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the next steps following the demolition, focusing on searching the remaining areas of the premises.

Though Foundry Street is now open, sections of Stafford Street, particularly near Leek Building Society, and the top of Trinity Street, remain closed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and will be addressed in due course.
