Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is proposing a ban on temporary structures like tents in public areas, potentially leading to £100 fines for violations.

This is part of an update to the existing Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) aimed at tackling unauthorised encampments.

Final decisions on the updated PSPO are expected this autumn.

Existing restrictions related to dog control and anti-social behaviour will continue under the new order.

Current PSPO rules that will continue include:

-Prohibiting open alcohol containers in public places

-Mandatory removal of dog faeces from public land

-Requirement to leash dogs when told by an authorised officer

-Limiting to six dogs per person in public parks

-Keeping dogs on leads in cemeteries and sports pitches

-Barring dogs from children's play areas

A council report confirms that dog-related issues remain significant despite compliance with existing rules.

The council is launching a 12-week public consultation on the draft PSPO, targeting parks and open spaces.

If approved, the new PSPO would be valid for three years.
