A man has been sentenced to prison after a car crash in Stoke-on-Trent caused serious injury and impacted a local business.

Daniel Mohammed, 21, received a sentence of two years and two months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

He admitted to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, using a vehicle without insurance, and using a mobile phone while driving.

The incident occurred at 6am on 20th July when Mohammed was driving a black Ford on Scotia Road, Tunstall.

He attempted to overtake another vehicle on a bend, lost control, and collided with a takeaway.

During the crash, a female passenger sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised, but she has fortunately been discharged.

No injuries were reported inside the takeaway.

PC Tom Poole led the investigation, gathering CCTV evidence which eventually led to Mohammed's guilty plea.

Speaking about the incident, PC Poole said, “Mohammed’s reckless driving not only caused serious injury to his passenger but also had a great effect on a local business, which has sadly been closed since the collision."

“Our thoughts remain with all those affected by this incident and I hope this sentence offers them some closure.”
