Teen sentenced over unprovoked New Year's assault in Crewe
Bobby Plant jailed for attack and police confrontation
A Crewe teenager has been sentenced to nine months in a young offender institution following an unprovoked attack on a man during the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Bobby Plant, 19, of Ash Road, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Monday, 23rd March, and pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
The incident occurred around 2:52 am at Albert’s Corner public house on Prince Albert Street, where Plant turned aggressively towards a group of people while using a boxing machine, and punched a man who had arrived moments earlier.
The victim sustained two jaw fractures requiring surgery from the sudden, unprovoked blow.
Subsequent to the assault, Plant was removed from the premises but continued his aggression towards officers, striking out and causing injuries, and even spat at one officer.
Plant is banned from Albert’s Corner pub for two years and has been issued a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.
Detective Constable Edwards said: “This assault was entirely unprovoked, yet the victim ended up with two jaw fractures due to the force that he was hit with.
“The victim was out celebrating the New Year and should not have been subjected to such violence.
“Plant also assaulted numerous police officers. Officers do not go to work expecting to be hit and spat at and I hope this custodial sentence sends a message that this will not be tolerated.”
