Demolition work on the blue link bridge at the Countess of Chester Hospital is scheduled to commence this weekend, with activities planned over the two remaining weekends in September.

The hospital trust confirmed on its Facebook page that transforming the hospital campus will proceed with the removal of the bridge, aiming to open up the site and support its redevelopment.

Work is set for the weekends of 19th–20th September and 26th–27th September, from approximately 6am to 6pm each day.

A large crane will be active on-site, leading to temporary road closures and pedestrian diversions around the bridge and main entrance area.

Despite these changes, both public car parks will operate normally, although some access routes around the site will be altered.

Access to the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care, and the Women and Children’s Building will be through the hospital's rear entrance, opposite the Little Owl pub on Countess Way.

Bus services normally routing via the hospital site will be diverted around the perimeter, with bus stops on Countess Way and Liverpool Road remaining operational.

Pedestrian routes may adjust as work progresses, so extra travel time is advised for visitors.

The hospital's estates team is overseeing the operations, prioritising site safety.

The bridge demolition follows the recent opening of a new £110 million 'landmark' Women and Children’s Building last September.
