Two men have been jailed after threatening and attacking a man in a Chester car park earlier this year.

Billy Perks, 35, and Craig Rodham, 36, of no fixed abode, were sentenced at Chester Crown Court on 17th October.

The charges followed an incident on 5th May 2025 in a car park off Station Road, Chester.

Shortly before 5pm, Perks drove a Honda into the car park with Rodham as his passenger.

After arriving, Rodham got out while Perks remained in the vehicle.

Just after 6pm, the victim returned to his own car - a BMW parked nearby.

Perks and Rodham approached the man, both armed with knives, and threatened him as he sat with his car door open.

They demanded he hand over his car keys, and during a struggle, stole his mobile phone.

The threats continued as the victim managed to escape and requested someone call police.

Arrests and sentencing

As the men returned to their vehicle, Perks drove at speed towards the victim, who stepped aside and used a traffic cone to protect himself, causing the Honda’s windscreen to break.

Perks left the vehicle and fled, while Rodham attempted to run but was quickly detained by officers at the scene.

Two knives were found nearby and the stolen phone was recovered from the Honda. Perks was later arrested in Dutton.

At Chester Crown Court, Perks admitted theft, possessing a knife, dangerous driving, and aiding and abetting affray. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison.

Rodham admitted possession of a knife and aiding and abetting affray, receiving a two-year prison term.

Police reaction

Detective Constable Kris Aston said: “I welcome the sentences handed to both Perks and Rodham, who had no choice but to admit their guilt and are now facing time in custody for their actions.

"This was an unprovoked attack, not only threatening someone while in possession of a knife but also attempting to use a vehicle as a weapon.

"Thankfully officers detained and arrested Perks and Rodham incredibly quickly and put their offending to a stop.

This must have been a terrifying experience for the victim, and I hope the conclusion of this case will bring them some closure.”
