As England prepares to play their first World Cup match tomorrow, Cheshire Constabulary is urging motorists to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

With many planning to watch the match at pubs, the Constabulary reinforces the importance of arranging safe travel home.

Driving after consuming alcohol, even in small amounts, or while under the influence of drugs, poses significant risks to drivers and others on the road.

Superintendent John Forshaw from the Roads and Crime Unit highlighted the dangers of impaired driving:

“The amount of people that think they are safe to drive after a couple of drinks because they don’t ‘feel’ affected by the alcohol is astonishing."

Forshaw emphasised that even a single drink can impair a driver's ability to respond to changing road conditions or unexpected actions from other road users.

Cheshire Constabulary encourages individuals to plan their travel arrangements to ensure the World Cup experience remains memorable for positive reasons.

Motorists are urged to consider whether they have consumed alcohol or drugs before driving, whether on the night itself or the following morning.

The campaign seeks to prevent instances of tragedy associated with impaired driving, encouraging everyone to enjoy the World Cup safely.
