Cheshire East Council has announced a postponement of its new weekly food waste collection service to focus on improving the reliability of current waste and recycling collections.

Councillor David Jefferay, cabinet member for environment, sustainability and waste management, said there had been a substantial drop in service quality in recent months.

Despite having the necessary crews, vehicles, and infrastructure in place to begin food waste collections in November, Jefferay emphasised the need to prioritise reliable bin collection services before introducing additional elements.

The council plans to roll out the food waste collection service early next year in compliance with the Government's Simpler Recycling legislation.

Further updates regarding the service will be provided in the new year, and residents are advised to retain their food waste caddies until then.
