The people of Staffordshire are celebrating today following England’s Lionesses’ triumph.

The Lionesses defeated Spain on penalties to reclaim the trophy.

One of the standout stars of the tournament, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, attended Chase Grammar School in Cannock and Erasmus Darwin Academy in Burntwood.

Hayley Coles, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to see the Lionesses crowned champions once again.

“We’ve been supporting them since the tournament started and we’re so proud of Hannah and the whole squad in what was a brilliant result against a very strong Spanish team.

“We’re also proud to be the home of the National Football Centre at St George’s Park in Burton where the squad trains and the hard miles are done. We hope the victory will not only help inspire the next generation of players, particularly our young girls, but will put Staffordshire firmly on the map as the home of English football excellence. Once again, very well done to the whole squad.”
