A man has been sentenced to two years and eight months in jail for stalking and harassing a woman for over a year.

Mohammed Qasim Ali, 25, from Burton-upon-Trent, admitted to offences including stalking involving fear of violence and harassment, spanning from August 2024 to September 2025.

The sentencing took place at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday, 28th May.

In one incident in August 2024, Ali followed the victim from a garage to a shop, entered her parked car, and verbally abused her when asked to leave, prompting her to flee.

Later that day, Ali threw rocks at the victim’s window and sounded his horn outside her home, also calling her around 70 times from a withheld number within the week.

His behaviour persisted, culminating in July 2025 when he waited for the victim outside a nursery and chased her as she attempted to escape.

Ali was arrested following the nursery incident and racially harassed a custody officer while detained.

PC Steven Franklin from the East Staffordshire local policing team led the investigation, emphasising the significant impact of Ali's actions, stating: "I hope this sentence shows we are committed to protecting victims across Staffordshire."
