Asa McGahan, a 26-year-old from Burntwood, has been sentenced to three years and ten months in prison for two assaults and escaping lawful custody.

His sentence was delivered at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday, 28th May, following admissions of actual bodily harm and escape charges.

The initial assault occurred in October 2024, at which point McGahan left the victim's address but returned later that day to continue the attack.

He punched and fought with the woman until police arrived.

After being informed of his impending arrest, McGahan evaded custody by fleeing into nearby woodland.

Police successfully apprehended him, leading to the submission of evidence against him.

Beyond imprisonment, McGahan has received an eight-year restraining order prohibiting contact with the assault survivor.

Detective Constable Reece Hingley from the criminal investigations department affirmed the severity of McGahan's actions.

“The violence that the survivor in this case was subjected to was utterly deplorable, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to secure this outcome for her,” Hingley stated.

He further pledged continued robust action against high-harm offences in Staffordshire to protect affected individuals.
