The Charity Commission has launched an investigation into Animal Lifeline, a dog rescue charity based in Stoke-on-Trent, over concerns of financial management and potential misuse of funds.

This statutory inquiry, prompted by an investigation by Staffordshire Police, aims to assess whether the charity's trustees have complied with their legal duties.

This includes the potential loss or misappropriation of funds, and whether any unauthorized private benefits have been received by trustees or connected parties.

Animal Lifeline say they're co-operating with the Charity Commission and the police.

The charity strongly refutes any allegations of intentional wrongdoing or fund misuse.

A spokesperson said: "The charity has always sought to operate with transparency and integrity in delivering its mission.

"Our priority remains the welfare of the dogs in our care and the continued support of the community that relies on our rescue and rehoming services."

The charity will continue to operate as normal.
