17 year-old boy arrested after knifepoint robbery

Police have arrested a teenage boy and seized a knife and a balaclava, after a robbery in Burton-on-Trent.

Shortly before 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 August), officers were called to Wendy’s Newsagents on Main Street, Stapenhill, after a knifepoint robbery.

The suspect took money from the till and a bottle of brandy, before leaving.

Officers later found a person in the area, matching the description of the suspect. He was detained and a knife, a balaclava and £141 in cash was seized.

A 17 year-old boy, from Burton-on-Trent, was arrested, on suspicion of robbery, possession of a knife in a public place, threats to kill and affray.

He has since been bailed, with conditions, while inquiries continue.
