There are plans for Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to visit South Yorkshire, to discuss ideas to tackle knife crime in the wake of the fatal stabbing of 15 year old Harvey Willgoose in Sheffield.

Another teenager has been remanded into custody charged with Harvey's murder at the All Saints Catholic High School on February.

Mayor of South Yorkshire Oliver Coppard has confirmed talks are ongoing on when the visit will happen.

He is attempting to broker a meeting between Yvette and Harvey's family.

A Home Office spokesperson said:

“Our thoughts remain with Harvey's family and friends. This government has set an ambitious mission for the country to halve knife crime over the next decade and we will pursue every possible avenue to save young lives.”

“We are committed to making prevention a central mission of the knife crime action plan through our new Young Futures Programme.

"This initiative will establish a network of Young Futures Hubs and Young Futures Prevention Partnerships to intervene earlier and support children and young people who are at risk of being drawn into violent crime, anti-social behaviour, and violence against women and girls.”

It comes as a funeral is being held for Harvey at Sheffield Cathedral today.
