Preparations in place at Yorkshire Wildlife Park for next heatwave
Temperatures could reach the mid 30's tomorrow
Yorkshire Wildlife Park tell us they're 'confident' the animals there will 'comfortably cope' with the hot weather this week.
It's as temperatures are expected to reach the mid 30's tomorrow across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire.
Cheryl Williams works at the Doncaster based zoo - She says preparations are in place:
"We'll hose down the rhino and make sure they've got some water in their wallow so they can roll in the mud.
"We've also got one wallaby who is white and we have to put sun cream on his ears because they're pink.
"So, those are the kind of little things we do.
"The polar bears have got their massive lake that they go into, which is about 6 degrees Celsius all year round and 8 metres deep.
"A lot of our other animals are actually from Africa, so they're genetically adapted to dealing with the heat.
"Lions, for example, will lay in the sun all day long if you let them.
"I think historically we've seen that when it got over about 30 degrees Celsius that we'd see a bit of a tail off in people coming to visit.
"However, we've had it hot for so long now, that people have evolved into being able to deal with it a bit more.
"So, we've actually had some really busy days when we've had the proper hot weather.
"People can bring their own water, and they should bring sunscreen, as well as a hat."
