We are being warned to watch out for courier fraud after a man in Rotherham lost more than 4 thousand pounds to scammers posing as bank staff.

Police say the victim was persuaded to withdraw cash and hand it to a courier, following a series of fraudulent phone calls.

Officers say banks or police will never ask for money or financial details over the phone.

PC Vicki Arrowsmith, from our Fraud Team, said:

"The victims often targeted in courier fraud are elderly so please check in with your loved ones who may be vulnerable to this form of fraud. Make sure to share the below advice so they are less likely to fall victim to these callous fraudsters.

"Fraudsters can cunningly manipulate victims by convincing them that there has been suspicious activity with their bank accounts, making it sound like they had the victim's best interests in mind.

"This isn't the case. The police or your bank will never call you to ask you to verify your financial details by phone. Hang up if you get a call like this."
