Staff at Edlington Town Council go unpaid for nearly two months
Employees of Edlington Town Council were not paid at the end of July 2026 and had to wait until the second half of August before being paid again, sources have said.
Staff at a town council in Doncaster have paid for fuel for site equipment out of their own pockets, after going without pay for the best part of two months.
Employees of Edlington Town Council were not paid at the end of July 2026 and had to wait until the second half of August before being paid again, sources have said.
The town council also has no website or working emails, with both coming down amid missed payments.
Sources revealed that members of the town council’s site team, who maintain the local cemetery and other sites, had to purchase fuel for equipment such as mowers out of their own pockets in order to continue their work.
Town Mayor Councillor Keri Anderson, acting on behalf of the council whilst the authority’s clerk is on leave, said: “Edlington Town Council will not be providing a response at this stage.”
Sources reported that many of the council’s bills, including for internet, the website, and email addresses, are in the name of the clerk.
It is understood that the clerk is taking time away from the role, but offered to return in July to process staff payments and the outstanding bills, but the offer was declined by the political leadership.
Coun Anderson is undertaking the responsibilities of the clerk in their absence.
