A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in Sheffield.

Police were called to Woodhouse last Wednesday , where they found a 14-year-old who was seriously injured.

A 17-year- old is in Police custody.

A Police statement said: "A teenager is in police custody following the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy in Woodhouse.

"Last week, on Wednesday 18 March an investigation was launched after officers responded to Market Square to reports of a boy who had been stabbed.

"The boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He has since remained stable and is recovering well.

"Today (22 March) officers have made an arrest. A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody."

Sheffield Superintendent Martin Simcock said: “This senseless attack is the reality of knife crime in our city, and how in the brink of a moment of violence, lives and families can be shattered and have their worlds turned upside down.

“Our dedicated officers have worked round the clock to understand the circumstances that led to this attack and ensure those responsible are brought into custody and put before the courts.

“We will not allow knife crime to take lives and cause fear and harm, it has no place in our communities.

“Policing alone cannot undo this, and we need your help, parents’ help to start conversations, raise awareness and make South Yorkshire a place where young people don’t feel like they need weapons or violence.”
