A teenage boy has died after an electric bike he was riding hit a car in Chesterfield.

It happened on Newbold Road at around 8:30pm on March 5 when 14 year old Finley Dawson was riding with a passenger, a 15 year old boy.

Both were thrown from the bike after striking a Kia Sportage, suffering serious injuries.

Finley's condition was deemed 'non survivable' upon arriving at hospital and he passed away the following day.

The pillion passenger remains in hospital, in a serious but stable condition.

Authorities are supporting Finley's family, while the driver of the Kia is being treated as a witness and is cooperating with police.

No arrests have been made.

The families of Finlay and the other injured boy have since warned of the risks of riding e-bikes. In a joint statement they said:

“There is a reason these bikes are banned from the road, and devastatingly Finley has paid the ultimate price in losing his life.

“His friend has sustained serious injuries and has to come to terms with growing up without his best mate.

“Although the thrill of riding an e-bike on the road seems exciting, it can also be fatal.

“That quick thrill, is not worth the risk.”
