Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen calls on team to 'be braver', as Owls go eight games without scoring
Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 1 - 0 defeat to Blackburn last night
Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen has challenged his players to show more bravery, as Owls have extended their goalless run to eight games.
Owls suffered another setback as they fell 1-0 to Blackburn
Wednesday almost secured an equaliser in the second half when Jamal Lowe’s header was deflected onto the woodwork, leaving fans frustrated with a restless performance.
Boss Henrik Pedersen urged his team to show more courage in play, especially when advancing into the attacking third.
“First half, on the ball, the first two thirds on the pitch, we were good, to play the press away to progress high up on the pitch,” Pedersen said.
“We had a challenge when we went from the second third to last third to break the final line, to get more touches in the box. Our offensive possession was okay, but to create something we had challenges again."
Changes were made in the second half to push more players forward, but opportunities were wasted.
“After the first 15 minutes, where we create chances, we bring the ball high up but too many times when we can make a deep ball, we end up playing backwards and we have to start again.” Pedersen noted.
He challenged his players to take more risks going forward: “It takes the momentum out of the situation. We need to be braver and we need to risk more.”
Wednesday’s ongoing goal drought places further pressure on the team, already rooted to the bottom of the Championship and still reeling from a string of high profile departures.
