A man has been jailed for helping his brother leave the country following a fatal assault at a Sheffield takeaway in 2024.

Adam Iqbal, 27, of Beck Road, East Yorkshire, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to three years and eight months at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday.

Iqbal assisted his brother, Danyal Iqbal, by arranging travel shortly after Hamza Mohammed, 23, sustained a serious head injury during an attack on Staniforth Road in Darnall on the evening of June 8 2024.

Wanted: Danyal Iqbal

Hamza was taken to hospital but died on June 10 2024 from his injuries.

Authorities believe Danyal Iqbal, 22, remains overseas after his brother helped him leave the country.

He is still wanted on charges of murder for Hamza’s death and failed to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on September 15 2025.

Anyone who sees him is urged to call 999 immediately. Information about his possible whereabouts can be reported by calling 101.
