Sheffield men jailed for arson attack on home of 78 year old woman while she was still inside

Two Sheffield man have been jailed for a combined 20 years for setting fire to an elderly woman's home while she was still inside.
37 year old Samuel Moffett, of Norfolk Park Road, used petrol to set the blaze inside the home on Oxford Street while associate, 32 year old Callum Walters of Framlingham Road, waited in a parked vehicle nearby.
The home was severely damaged but the 78 year old woman managed to get out and was treated for smoke inhalation following the incident on November 26 2024.
Moffett was caught on CCTV startingt the fire.
Moffett was found guilty of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered and Walters was found guilty of arson with intent to endanger life.
Both were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday, with Walters handed 12 years behind bars and Moffett receiving 8 years.
Detective Constable Kevin Sibley, of South Yorkshire Police, said:“This was a horrific incident which put a completely innocent woman’s life at risk and destroyed her home.
“Despite the arson attack being caught clearly on CCTV, the pair denied their involvement, putting the victim and her family through the ordeal of a trial.
“Our community is safer with the pair in prison and I am glad that we have secured justice for the victim.”
