A Sheffield man has been jailed for 14 years for rape, coercive and controlling behaviour and assault.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how 25 year old Jason Evers, of Wesley Road, targeted two victims, who both later came forward to police.

Evers was found guilty following a trial and was sentenced to 11-and-a-half years for the rape charge, two-and-a-half years for coercive and controlling behaviour (served consecutively), and 18 months for the assault charges (served concurrently).

He was found not guilty of a second count of rape.

Investigations Officer Amy Todd, who was the OIC for the victim of rape, and DC Katie Walker, who led the investigation into the assault, commented:

"Both victims showed incredible courage in not only the immediate aftermath of these attacks but during the criminal justice proceedings.

"At no stage during the investigation or the subsequent trial did Evers' ever accept responsibility for what he had done and we are pleased that he will now spend a considerable time behind bars.

"I hope that this result shows others survivors of abuse that when they come forward, they will be listened to and treated with respect through every step of the prosecution process."
