Sheffield man gets seven year animal ban after keep dogs in squalid conditions

A South Yorkshire man who kept 13 dogs in squalor in a backyard has been banned from keeping animals for seven years

39 year old Nicholas Fox, of Mortomley Close in Sheffield, admitted to an animal welfare offence at Sheffield Magistrates' Court.

The court heard the dogs were kept across 10 different pens, without access to water or warm bedding during cold weather.

Fox was previously warned to make improvements after a visit from the RSPCA in November 2024.

The dogs were later seized by police when animal welfare officerd returned in January 2025.

They've now been rehomed.

Fox has also been given a suspended sentence, will pay a fine and have to complete 25 days of rehabilitation.

Speaking after the sentencing, RSPCA Inspector Vanessa Reid said:

“These poor dogs were being kept outside in very poor accommodation in very cold weather and despite being previously advised to provide proper bedding for them as well as cleaning their pens the defendant failed to take the necessary actions.”
