The case of a man who is accused of murdering a mother-of-one who was shot outside a bar in Sheffield has been heard in court, with his provisional trial date pushed back by two weeks.

Jemele Rhone, 30, is charged with the murder of 30-year-old Shanice Brookes, who was shot near the One Four One bar in West Street, in the city centre, shortly before 2.45am on May 25.

Rhone, of Outram Road, Sheffield, who is remanded in custody, did not attend Monday’s hearing at Sheffield Crown Court.

Judge Jeremy Richardson KC ordered that Rhone appear at a hearing at the same court on Monday, July 20.

He set a trial date of January 18, 2027, pushing back by two weeks a provisional date of January 4 that had been set down at an earlier hearing.

The judge said the time estimate for the trial, to be heard by a High Court judge, is three weeks.

Rhone’s co-defendant, Deiryen Dyce, 32, of Ellesmere Road North, Sheffield, appeared in court on Monday and entered pleas of not guilty to all the charges she faces.

Dyce pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of cannabis, cocaine and crack cocaine, possessing criminal property, namely a quantity of cash and to possessing diamorphine with intent to supply.

She was remanded in custody until a pre-trial review on a date to be fixed in November, ahead of the trial from January 18 next year.

Rhone is also charged with possession of a handgun and possession of criminal property.

At an earlier magistrates’ court hearing, prosecutors described the incident on May 25 as an “alleged street shooting” and said Ms Brookes was an “entirely innocent bystander”.
