A man has been jailed for two years and four months after pushing shopping trolleys into police cars during rioting in Rotherham last year.

41 year old James Garbutt, of Kingsbrook Chase in Wath-upon-Dearne, was caught on video taking part in the disorder outside the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers on August 4 2024.

He had his young son on his shoulders at the time.

Garbutt later admitted he was at the hotel, but claimed he had only been there to 'feed the ducks' with his son at a nearby lake.

He told officers his actions were a 'moment of stupidity'.

Admitting to violent disorder at Sheffield Crown Court, Garbutt became the 89th person to be sentenced for taking part in the riot. He was also handed a 10 year criminal behaviour order.
