A Rotherham man has been jailed for eight years for the non recent sexual abuse of young children.

51 year old Jason Hardman, of Thorpe Hesley, has been sentenced after being found guilty of child sexual abus committed more than 30 years ago.

Police opened an investigation into Hardman in 2022, after a victim came forward with a detailed account of historical sexual abuse.

The investigation identified a second victim, who as a child, also suffered at Hardman's hands.

Hardman was subsequently charged with five counts of indecent assault against a child, two counts of attempt rape, one count of gross indecency and one count of buggery.

A jury at Sheffield Crown Court convicted him of all counts.

Alongside his prison term, he has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Investigations Officer Julie Towers, of South Yorkshire Police said:

"The courage of both victims is to be commended. It takes real courage to report something of this nature.

"I hope this result shows that it is never too late to disclose any incidents of sexual offences and rape. We will treat every report seriously and thoroughly investigate every incident."
