Proactive vehicle stop uncovers extensive Sheffield drug operation
Mohammed Khan jailed after drugs and weapons found in car searches
A proactive vehicle stop in Sheffield has exposed a substantial drug operation leading to the imprisonment of Mohammed Khan.
Neighbourhood officers conducting patrols in the Sharrow area on 5th April smelled cannabis, prompting them to search a Vauxhall Peugeot and arrest the driver, 22-year-old Mohammed Khan.
Upon arrest for possession of cannabis, an extensive search of his vehicle unearthed further evidence, including additional drugs, large knives and business cards suspected to belong to a drugs line. This discovery extended to another vehicle, a Hyundai I10, found nearby unlocked by keys found in Khan's possession.
Despite evading officers during a subsequent incident, Khan left behind items containing Class A drugs, further implicating him in drug offenses.
By 3rd May, another collision involving Khan's vehicle revealed additional drug possession upon searching a second vehicle connected to him.
The investigation overseen by Sheffield Fortify—a team dedicated to tackling serious and organised crime—culminated in a warrant executed at Khan's home, revealing more evidence of his drug dealing activities.
Khan, from Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to several charges including possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, weapon possession, dangerous driving, and perverting the course of justice.
He was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court to six years and four months behind bars on 9th September.
PC Chloe Constantine of Sheffield Fortify stated, "Drugs cause significant harm to communities, and we aim to remove dealers from our streets."
Authorities encourage citizens to report suspected drug dealing activities, which could aid in taking offenders like Khan off the streets. Reports can be made online here or via calling 101; Crimestoppers offers an anonymous reporting option at 0800 555 111.
