An iconic Sheffield charity fundraiser is set to join other big names from the Steel City, like Sean Bean and Joe Cocker, in being honoured with a star outside the Town Hall next week.

John 'The Man with the Pram' Burkhill has raised more than £1.2m for Macmillan Cancer Support over the years, collecting in Sheffield City Centre in a green wig and also taking part in running events across Yorkshire.

John started his fundraising mission in 1993 following the death of Daughter Karen.

He was already made a BEM in 2013 and was given Freedom of the City of Sheffield in 2021.

An unveiling ceremony has now been pencilled in for next Tuesday.

In a statement on his social media pages, John wrote: "I'm incredibly honoured to be receiving a Sheffield Legends plaque."

"This recognition is about the people of Sheffield. The people who've stopped for a chat, cheered me on from across the road, given me a high five, or dropped a few bob into the pram.

"You have been part of this journey every step of the way, and I'm incredibly grateful for your support.

"Together we've raised over £1.2 million and made a difference to people living with cancer. That's something this city should be proud of."
