Police say they believe a woman who died following a shooting in Sheffield was an innocent bystander.
It happened in the early hours of yesterday (25th May) outside One Four One bar in the city centre
The Force says three people arrested on suspicion of murder remain in custody.
Chief Superintendent Jamie Henderson, the District Commander for Sheffield has given this update:
"I’m here to provide an update on the investigation into the fatal shooting outside One Four One bar in the early hours of Monday, and, tell you what we are doing to prevent and further reduce gun crime in Sheffield to keep our communities safe.
"Following extensive enquiries over the last 36 hours, we believe the victim was an innocent bystander who was on a night out in our city to celebrate the bank holiday weekend.
"While formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe her to be a 30-year-old woman from Sheffield and next of kin have been informed.
"Following arrests in Greater Manchester and Sheffield yesterday, two men and one woman remain in police custody for questioning.
"Meanwhile, a team of detectives are working around the clock to ensure anyone else who may be involved is identified and all those who are responsible are arrested.
"We need your help. We know that West Street and Eldon Street were both busy at the time of this incident, and there were people who saw what happened who haven't come forward yet.
The Force says they will be issuing an image of a vehicle they wish to identify.
Chief Superintendent Jamie Henderson continues
"We also know there are others within our communities who know who is responsible or who is involved in gun crime but feel too scared to tell us what they know.
"In terms of our approach to gun crime in Sheffield, one shooting is too many.
"While the number of shootings has reduced in recent years, we aren’t complacent and are working hard to remove guns and those who intend to use them from our streets.
"We welcome intelligence from our communities and partners and, as soon as we have enough to take action, we relentlessly hunt offenders – conducting raids and arrests.
"Specialist resources, in uniform and plain clothes, focus in on hotspot areas to gather further intelligence and take immediate action against those who cause harm.
"Let us be clear, if you have a gun or intend to use one, we will find you and you will go to prison.
"Gun crime causes devastation within families and communities. In this case, an innocent woman who should have been able to safely enjoy a night out in Sheffield has been killed, and her loved ones have been left to face the heartbreaking reality that they will never see her again.
"While we are doing everything we can, we need our communities to work with us in helping us to find illegal guns and those who intend to use them".
