A former South Yorkshire student police officer has admitted to misconduct in a public office, after having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a victim of crime.

45 year old Robert Veza first came into contact with the victim in 2023, when he was part of the neighbourhood policing team in Sheffield.

He was later reported to the force’s Professional Standards Department and suspended from duty in September 2024.

He changed his plea to guilty the day his trail was due to open at Sheffield Crown Court. Veza quit the force in January of this year, with a misconduct investigation ongoing.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police wrote: "We will root out any officers, staff members or volunteers who fail to reflect the values of our organisation and fall below the standards members of the public rightly expect."

"If you have concerns about a member of our workforce who you believe is taking advantage of their role and abusing their position of power - for financial or sexual motivation, or motivated by hatred or prejudice - please contact us."
