Sheffield Eagles prop Mitch Clark has been released by the club 'by mutual consent on compassionate grounds.'

The 31 year old New Zealander joined ahead of last season from Newcastle Thunder, making a total of 27 appearances in Eagles colours.

A statement on the Eagles website reads: "It was great to see Mitch’s father and former Rugby League player Trevor Clark surprise him ahead of our trip to Wembley Stadium last season, where he flew into the country on the morning of the game from Australia."

"We’d like to thank Mitch for all he has done for the club over the last year, and we wish him the best with his future endeavours."

He has been connected with a move to York Knights, though this is yet to be confirmed.
