Parents in South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire back calls for longer paternity leave
Strikes about the issue are taking place all over the country today
A number of 'parent strikes' are taking place across the country today - including in South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire.
The action has been set up as a call for more flexible working arrangements & longer paternity leave.
Chris from Chesterfield is a dad of 2 children - aged 2 & 8:
"We need greater flexibility - particularly for dads - and longer paternity leave.
"There is shared parental leave, but not many people take it, for a whole variety of reasons.
"I myself only took the two weeks paternity leave that I was entitled to.
"You haven't really got enough time on paternity leave to bond with your child as much as you would like to.
"That is why weekends and spare time is so important isn't it when you are a parent; so that you can spend time with your children.
Graham from Doncaster has 2 children already - & has another one on the way:
"I work for a company that is pretty good.
"With my first two kids, I got 2 weeks paternity leave, but I'm getting a month off work this time.
"They are pretty flexible with me, so if one of them is poorly and I have to leave, usually I can just go and they'll understand, so I am lucky in that sense.
"Two weeks certainly isn't enough, and even a month probably won't feel long enough.
"There needs to be a bit more consistency across the board with paternity leave.
"You hear of some people who end up getting six months off."
