An investigation is getting underway after shots were fired at two homes in Sheffield.

Longley College is shut today due to roads in the area being cordoned off.

A Police statement said: "At 4.31am today (Wednesday 23 September), we were called to reports of a firearms discharge at a house on Swanbourne Road, Sheffield.

"Shortly after, at 4.42am, we were called to a further report of a firearms discharge at another house on Horninglow Road.

"It is reported that two unknown suspects attended the first location on an electric style bike and discharged a firearm towards a property. The same circumstances are reported to have taken place at the second location.

"No injuries have been reported in connection with the incidents.

"Officers attended and scenes have been established at both locations while enquiries take place into both incidents."

Superintendent Martin Simcock said:

“These are serious incidents and I know that the public will rightly be concerned. When reckless individuals discharge a deadly weapon, they put innocent lives at risk.

“Our officers will work around the clock to bring the suspects to justice. We will also have an increased officer presence in the area in the coming days for the reassurance and safety of the public.

“We take gun crime incredibly seriously in South Yorkshire, but we cannot solve this issue alone.

“This is the second time this week that we are responding to reports of a firearms discharge in Sheffield, and we simply cannot go on like this.

“We need the support of the public, we need you to report anything you think you might know about serious crime so that we can thoroughly investigate.

“If you suspect someone is in possession of an illegal firearm, tell us so that we can take action before the weapon is used.
