New documentary looks at South Yorkshire Police investigation into double murderer Gary Allen
Amazon Prime is to release the documentary Chasing a Killer - about Gary Allen's double murder trial
A new documentary telling the story of how detectives caught the murderer to two women, in Rotherham and in Hull, is being released this month.
Titled Chasing a Killer: Gary Allen, its is set for release on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland on Sunday (February 22).
It explores the investigations conducted by South Yorkshire Police and Humberside Police into Gary Allen, who was convicted of murdering two women, Alena Grlakova and Samantha Class, over two decades apart.
In 2018, Allen killed Alena Grlakova, a mother-of-four from Rotherham, before disposing of her body in a stream in Parkgate.
Her death followed the murder of Hull resident Samantha Class in 1997, whose body was found in the Humber estuary.
Although Allen initially walked free after being tried for Samantha's murder, law enforcement officers later collaborated for a double jeopardy, double murder trial.
The two episode series shows how the investigation ultimately led to Allen's conviction for both murders at Sheffield Crown Court in 2021, where he received a life sentence with a minimum term of 37 years.
DCI Mark Oughton, SYP's senior investigator for the case, recounted the challenge of the inquiry, emphasizing the complexity of Alena's disappearance and how it transitioned into a murder investigation.
Oughton also shared the emotional impact on Alena's family upon finding her body.
Both Alena and Samantha's stories feature prominently in the documentary, highlighting the lengths taken to secure justice.
