Fir Vale School: 'minor injuries' after fight yesterday, police carrying out extra patrols
It comes after a fight involving staff and students at the Sheffield school yesterday
Extra police patrols are are underway in the Page Hall area of Sheffield following a fight at Fir Vale secondary school yesterday, which led to a big emergency response.
In an update, South Yorkshire Police have revealed several pupils and staff suffered minor injuries as a result of the altercation at around midday yesterday.
One staff member was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, not caused by an assault.
No weapons were found at the school and all students left the school safely at the end of the day.
No arrests have been made but an investigation into what happened continues.
South Yorkshire Police Superintendent Paul Ferguson said: "We understand this incident will have caused significant concern in the local community, especially for families who had children in school at the time.
"Our officers will remain in the area conducting intensive, high visibility patrols and enquiries throughout this evening and into the early hours of tomorrow morning and we will continue to work closely with the school and key partners to ensure the school is a safe and welcoming environment.
